Your Itinerary
Arrival in Bucharest
Welcome to Romania!
Once your flight has landed you will meet your in country team and transfer to Bucharest Old Town. After you have checked in to the hotel you will be invited to meet your local guide where they’ll talk you through the itinerary, answer any questions you may have and confirm any additional extras or optional activities you’d like to book for the duration of your stay.
The rest of the day is yours to explore Bucharest. If you have arrived early, you may want to consider signing up for the Bucharest City Tour which is a great way to learn more about the capital’s history and culture in just over an hour.
Alternatively, you may choose to discover the sights and soak up the atmosphere in your own way. With many bohemian cafes, bars and restaurants alongside eclectic architecture, ancient churches, Revolution Square and the Palace of the Parliament, Bucharest will definitely keep you entertained.
Bran Castle and Brasov
After you’ve had breakfast, head down to the reception area of your hotel with your luggage where you’ll be met by your guide and collected for the start of your journey into scenic Transylvania. Please note there will be a comfort break on the way to Bran Castle. The 13th century Bran Castle (commonly known as Dracula’s Castle) was the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula, and is shrouded in myth and legend. Explore the rooms and corridors of the castle and admire the iconic exterior or have a stroll through the nearby market stalls.
We will then travel on to the medieval Transylvanian town of Brasov where your hotel will be based, conveniently located near Piata Sfatului, the old town’s main square. After lunch you’ll be transferred to the Great Stone Mountain where you’ll start your trek towards the 7 Ladders Canyon.
The first trek will see you winding your way through picturesque woodland, crossing streams as you go, until you reach the 7 Ladders Canyon. As the name suggests, these are a series of tall ladders to climb to reach the top of the canyon, past striking rock features and alongside waterfalls - not for the faint hearted!
After your trek you will travel back to Brasov where you are free to explore one of the many restaurants around the main square for dinner.
Bear Sanctuary and Hiking
After breakfast you’ll be met by your guide in the reception area and begin your journey to the Libearty Bear Sanctuary. On your guided tour of this inspirational home to over 100 rescued bears, you’ll learn about the history of the sanctuary as well as the stories of some of the individual bears living there.
After this we will travel to Piatra Craiului Natural Park. The trek today is longer and slightly more challenging than the first.
You will head along a gentle track alongside awe-inspiring rocky cliff faces, before hiking up some steep inclines through thick forest. There are stunning mountain views along the way to keep you going and the National Park is home to one of the largest biodiversity of wildlife in the country so keep your eyes peeled as you walk! Once out of the forest, you’ll make your way up a steep slope where you’ll find a beautiful chalet serving traditional Romanian food. Enjoy a late lunch whilst
soaking up the spectacular scenery, before making your way back down to the pick-up point.
After your hike we will head back to Brasov in time for you to head out to dinner and have a wander around the historical center of Brasov. Steeped in history, the medieval town features the narrowest street in Europe, a maze of charming cobblestone streets dotted with bohemian cafes. The Brasov Walking Tour is a good option should you wish to book this to provide an introduction to the town’s main landmarks.
Ciucas Mountains
After breakfast we will head to the Ciucas Mountains. The third and final trek of the trip is the longest and most demanding. You will climb to the summit of the highest peak in the Cuicas mountain range, Varful Ciucas, nearly 2000 metres above sea level. Wind along rough, narrow tracks, passing breathtaking mountain ridges, unique rock formations and sweeping valleys on your way.
After this we will drive back to Brasov to enjoy another evening in this beautiful town.
Peles Castle and Bucharest
Today we'll enjoy a later start this morning before checking out of your hotel and heading to Peles Castle. Stopping in the mountain town of Sinaia you'll have an opportunity to admire the stunning neo-Renaissance Peles Castle, former residence of King Carol I.
After this we will head back to Bucharest to check into your hotel in the heart of the old town before our final night group dinner and to receive your medals after your adventure.
