Three Iconic W Trek Valleys The W Trek is called the “W” because of the form, when viewed from above, the trail path takes as it enters each of the three valleys. The three valleys are: Torres Base This is at the end of the Ascencio valley in the eastern arm of the W, featuring varied terrain from forests to a steep, rocky moraine. You’ll hike through lenga forests, cross streams, and navigate varied ascents. French Valley Once you have completed the Torres Base you will then head to either Cuernos or Frances. These are to the east of the entrance into the French Valley. The French Valley (Valle Francés) in Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park is a breathtaking glacial valley, central to the famous W Trek, known for its stunning views of hanging glaciers like Glaciar Francés, dramatic granite peaks (The Horns, Paine Grande), lush beech forests, and the powerful French River, offering iconic Patagonian landscapes. Grey The final leg of the W is over on the western arm of the trek near Glacier Grey. The hike from Paine Grande to Glacier Grey in Torres del Paine is a classic section of the “W” trek, offering stunning views of Grey Lake and the glacier, with a short extra walk to the main viewpoint. The trail features diverse Patagonian landscapes, crossing bridges, passing forests, and offering expansive lake vistas, culminating in breathtaking glacier views at Camp Grey. Scenery includes: Patagonian mountains, Grey Lake, icebergs, forests, and the massive Grey Glacier. It is here that there are additional options to ice hike and kayak at the Glacier (detailed below).
