Your Itinerary
San Jose to Drake Bay
Navigate the incredible Sierpe River, between the mangroves and under the watchful gaze of crocodiles. Once we reach Drake Bay, discover why it is called a paradise. In the evening we will meet our guide and embark on a night tour of the jungle, where you will have the opportunity to discover nocturnal wildlife.
Drake Bay to Gold Miners Camp
The day starts early with the sounds of the jungle and for our transfer to El Tigre Ranger Station. This is where our trek starts, up and down dirt trails over roots, deep into the rainforest to our first night’s camp, at a former gold miner’s ranch. Rest up or join the optional short night walk for even more wildlife sightings. Total Distance: ~13-15km
Gold Miners Camp to Carate
Learn about the traditional gold mining practices of the region this morning, before setting off in search of the coast. We will be trekking through remote jungle today with some elevation gain. The beach will be a welcome site and where we will stay for the night. Refresh yourself in the waters of the Pacific. Total Distance: ~13-15km
Carate to Sirena Station
Wake up to the sound of the waves lapping at the shore. Prepare for a long jungle day today, but know you will be rewarded with Corcovado National Park’s highest density of wildlife at Sirena Biological Station. Where we will have dinner and a well earned rest for the night. Total Distance: ~20-25km
Sirena Station to La Tarde
Today is the big traverse from Sirena Station across the park to La Tarde. Make sure to fill up on breakfast for the day ahead as there will be some more elevation gain on our longest distance day yet. Total Distance: ~30km
La Tarde to Indigenous Reserves
Take in the rainforest and small waterfalls today on our final section of the trek. After a river crossing, enjoy lunch at an indigenous reserve. Learn about the indigenous culture and cosmovision, to understand more about the people who live on the land we have trekked through, before taking taxis back to Drake Bay and a waiting bed. Total Distance: ~10km
Cano Island Biological Reserve
Today is all about relaxation. Enjoy a boat ride to Isla del Cano, whilst keeping an eye out for dolphins and whales. The Island boasts fantastic snorkelling spots, where you can immerse yourself in the incredible marine diversity of the Pacific Ocean. Swim with tropical schooling fish, rays and sea turtles, before a picnic lunch and downtime on San Josecito beach. Return to Drake Bay and spend the evening at your own leisure.
